Geagea: “A big scandal” in the Council... and a proposal to shorten the term
Fady Mahouly
The head of the Forces Party considered that what happened in Parliament during the past two days represents a major scandal for parliamentary work itself, and the lack of a sense of responsibility among a large number of representatives. In terms of form, the scene constitutes a scandal in every sense of the word, but in terms of content, it is an event and there is nothing wrong with it.
He said in a statement: Parliament fails to approve a well-deserved amnesty law to lift injustice against a wide segment of the Lebanese, and in return it approves a set of laws without careful study or actual understanding of their repercussions, which imposes additional burdens on the treasury amounting to hundreds of millions of dollars, at a time when Lebanon has not yet emerged from the repercussions of the financial and economic crisis that began in 2019.
He added: What I fear most is that, based on what was approved yesterday in the Parliament, we have once again entered into the same infernal circle that brought Lebanon to financial and economic collapse.
Geagea confirmed that the “Strong Republic” bloc will consider submitting a law proposal to shorten the mandate of the current Parliament, especially since this mandate was already extended, in light of the absence of compelling reasons that necessitated this extension.
